I am so glad that you are visiting the website of Joy Lutheran Church! We are a vibrant congregation gathered around God’s mission to love and save the world. As we seek to be God’s hands and voice in our community, we also care for one another, love to gather for worship, join together in fellowship, and develop more deeply our faith in Jesus Christ.
I have been a Lutheran all my life but have really enjoyed meeting people of many different faith backgrounds as the pastor of Joy. The diversity of others has enhanced my faith and the ways in which I experience God in my own life. I am a graduate of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina and I am the church planter of Joy serving here since 1998. It has been the honor and gift of a lifetime.
I met my wife, Dianna, as a graduate student at Winthrop University. She was the fun and pretty girl up on the 3rd floor of Bancroft Hall where I was the Resident Director. We are the very proud parents of two grown sons. Jacob is Sherriff’s Deputy with Greenville County and William is a mechanical engineer in Columbia. Both of our sons went to USC and so we cheer on the Gamecocks! We love our dog, Sadie and we have three granddogs.
God created us to live in community with one another. Experiencing God’s presence together and proclaiming the Gospel, then taking it out into the world is needed more today than ever before. One of my favorite passages from Scripture is Psalm 133:1, “How very good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity!” We need each other. The world needs us! I hope to see you sometime soon at church!
