What to Expect

Visiting a new church can be intimidating: What should I wear? Where do my kids go?
We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a new church, so we want you to feel completely comfortable when you visit. When you visit Joy, you can expect to share in meaningful worship, meet friendly people, and find ways to grow in your relationship with God.

Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to call or email us to find out more.

  • When are services?
  • What should I wear?
  • Where do my children go?
  • Am I expected to put money in the offering?
  • Can I participate in Holy Communion?
  • What is a Joy service like?

When are services?

Services are on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. As you enter the building, you come into the Gathering Area. The sanctuary is through the glass doors to the right. Our Greeters and Ushers will help you find your way.

What should I wear?

We want you to feel comfortable. After all, we are thrilled that you’re joining us and want you to be more focused on the service than what you’re wearing. It’s not uncommon to see people wearing jeans or khakis and a t-shirt or collared shirt. Others prefer to still put on their “Sunday best,” and that’s fine too! We think you’ll fit in no matter how you dress.

Where do my children go?

We have a nursery available for babies and toddlers through age 3. You may bring them before the service and then get them before Communion. Our nursery supervisor is Christina.

During the service, children ages 3 years through second grade are invited to participate in the Children’s Sermon.  At the 10:30 service, we offer Story Time in the parlor during the sermon and return to the sanctuary during the hymn of the day.

If your kids would like to stay in the service with you to worship as a family, Kid’s Sacks are available in the Gathering Area with crayons and a kid’s bulletin.

Am I expected to put money in the offering?

If you are visiting with us, we don’t expect you to put money in the offering, and you are welcome to just let it pass you by. If you consider Joy your church home, we’d love for you to prayerfully consider giving to the ministry and mission happening at Joy. You can give by check or cash during the service.

Can I participate in Holy Communion?

All are welcome at God’s Table. We invite all baptized Christians to receive the gift of God’s grace through Christ’s body and blood. The bread and wine are distributed by intinction (receive the bread and dip it into the cup of wine).

What is a Joy service like?

We hope that worship is a time when all people participate in praising God and experience God in meaningful and powerful ways. Our service is centered around God’s Word and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. We also combine various music ensembles, choir, keyboard, drums, and piano as a way of experiencing God through music. We strive to provide transformation worship experiences.

At our Sunday worship services, there is a pattern to our service (liturgy).

  • We gather for worship, confess our sins and hear God’s word of forgiveness.
  • Having been forgiven, we sing God’s praise and hear God’s Word through scripture and sermon.
  • From God’s Word, we confess our faith, offer our gifts, and lift up our prayers.
  • We are invited to come to our Lord’s table for communion (Eucharist).
  • Finally, we receive God’s blessing and are sent forth to serve.
