The Carpenter’s Table
In coordination with Tyger River Presbyterian Church, Reidville Rd. Methodist Church, and Nazareth Presbyterian, Joy collects food to help stock the food bank pantry and feed the hungry. You can help by bringing the designated item each month or any other food or toiletry item and place in the “grocery cart” in the foyer of Joy Lutheran. Contact the church office if you would like to volunteer for the food bank.

Joy is involved with the Feed The Future Backpack Program. This is a ministry to help ensure that children are fed over the weekend by sending a bag of food items home from school with them. Families from within the congregation “adopt-a-child” by shopping for their groceries and packing individual bags. Joy currently feeds 68 children at Berry Shoals Intermediate and Florence Chapel Middle schools.
To minister to financially needy families living in Spartanburg County by providing financial counseling, automobile maintenance and repairs, and spiritual encouragement; all for the purpose of advancing the glory of the Kingdom of God through the spirit and example of his son Jesus Christ.
What Is C.A.R. Ministry?
C.A.R. is an acronym for Counseling and Automobile Repair. We are an interdenominational ministry whose purpose is to minister to the financially challenged persons living in Spartanburg County. The ministry will provide financial counseling, automobile maintenance, and repairs, and spiritual encouragement to the Glory of God through the spirit and example of God’s son, Jesus Christ.
The Need for This Ministry?
Living a full life, supporting self and family, maintaining a sense of personal integrity, and freedom are but a dew of the aspects of the many faceted gift of life. Christians are called to share the abundant life of grace in Jesus Christ. In Spartanburg County we are blessed to have many ministries organized to meet health, safety, nutritional, and sheltering needs. Another vital need in the modern world is transportation. A car is not a luxury in American society, but a necessity to get to work, get children to school, get to health appointments, and get the shopping done. The care and maintenance of an automobile is an expense that can break the budgets of financially challenged families. The loss of transportation can lead to a whole host of troubles (from job loss to being unable to get to vital medical necessities.) Thus maintaining a vehicle is a must. The C.A.R. Ministry has been established to help local financially challenged families with budget planning and automobile maintenance and repairs.

Four times per year, Joy becomes a home to homeless families with children as they await more permanent housing. These families spend one week at Joy during the evenings receiving shelter and food. Many volunteers are needed for tasks including set-up, food preparation, evening hosts and overnight hosts who take turns staying on-site at Joy.
