Kids Faith Formation
Kids Sunday School Curriculum
We will spend the first half of the year learning about some of the stories from the Old Testament and then will be culminating with the birth of Jesus at Christmas. Teachers up through 3rd grade will be using a new curriculum this year called Spark Classroom which is an engaging new approach to learning the stories of the bible. Students will have a take home sheet that corresponds to the weekly lesson so you can see and read about what they did in Sunday School each week. We hope this will encourage discussion about faith in their every day lives.
Students will meet in the following classrooms.
- Birth – 2 Nursery
- Ages 2&3 Room 5
- Grades K4/K5 Room 4
- Grades 1 – 3 Room 3
Confirmation is a special opportunity of formation for our 7th and 8th graders as they journey toward adulthood and become responsible for their own faith journey. Youth, families, mentors and pastors engage in service, discussion, mentor groups, fellowship and additional gatherings. This is a two year program with one year focusing on basic teachings of faith and the other is studying God’s Word. Members of the congregation are able to serve as Secret Pals or Mentors. If interested, please contact Pastor Lane.
Adult Faith Formation
Growing in faith is an important part of living together as the body of Christ. Joy has weekly Sunday school classes at 9:30-10:15am for children, adults and youth during the program year (September – May).
Fall 2016 Sunday School:
Joy comes from not always having everything go perfectly in your life but rather it comes from faith lived out in God. Somehow faith takes moments of both happiness and sorrow, collects them, and arranges them into a way in which we can see God’s hands in the midst of it all. It is then when we are able to experience joy. For us, joy means living in community, God’s community as well as sharing in the good news of Jesus, living out of our faith, and supporting one another in the happiness and sorrows we experience in life. We are called as disciples of Jesus to invite others into the “joy” of Christian community.
Our disciple groups will discuss and explore ways to invite others and build community beginning Sunday, September 11th between the services. There is room for everyone!
Youth Faith Formation
Grades 4-12 will be doing a modified version of the adult Sunday School DiscipleSHIFT classes. We hope this will encourage family discussion both after church and throughout the week about how we live out our faith every day. What a great way to connect with your children!
